About Calvary Chapel: In the late 1960s, the first Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California, was a small nondenominational church of 25 members that was considering closing its doors just prior to the arrival of its new pastor, Chuck Smith. Instead, the Lord blessed that small group, and now Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa is home to at least 25,000 people. At the heart of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa is a passion to know God through heartfelt worship and solid Bible teaching and to rely upon Him for daily strength and guidance. Thousands of people, many of them hippies from the 60's, have become strong believers. Hundreds have been sent out to start other Calvary Chapels. There are now over 1,100 Calvary Chapels worldwide. The Calvary Satellite Network (CSN) beams Bible teaching and worship music to radio stations throughout North America, reaching millions of people. Chuck Smith's teaching ministry, Word for Today, continues to bless many. Other Calvary Chapel pastors, such as Greg Laurie, Raul Ries, Mike McIntosh, Bob Coy, Lloyd Pulley, and Jon Courson, are also being used by God to encourage people around the world to trust in Christ and to walk daily with Him. Calvary Chapel is not a hierarchical denomination; rather, it is an association of like-minded churches held together by a common faith, by a common philosophy of ministry and by genuine Christian love. About Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor: In response to a definite spiritual need that was voiced by various Ann Arbor area residents and sensed by Calvary Chapel Michigan pastors, Dave Gremban began a Bible study in Ann Arbor as an outreach of Calvary Chapel of Kalamazoo Valley. Seeing fruit in people's lives and having an unquenchable desire to move forward, the decision was made in September 2004 to go ahead with the formation of Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor. The people of Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor are reaching out to a needy community and world in many ways: Sunday morning worship service, midweek Bible study, an Ann Arbor Art Fair booth, short-term mission trips, campus outreach, and the encouragement and development of people's personal gifts and ministries (e.g., music, etc.). In addition, we look forward to taking steps in the areas of musical events, bookstore outreach, video creation, retreats, and church planting. The reason why we reach out is so that we can impact a world that so desperately needs hope... all for God's glory and by God's grace. All are welcome at Calvary Chapel Ann Arbor... families, single parents, married couples, university/college students, teens and children... we all need the forgiveness and encouragement that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.
